TNR Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 7, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how TNR (the "App") handles information when you use it.
Summary
TNR is designed to work without an account and to preserve your privacy. The App developer:
- does not collect or store your personal data on developer-operated servers;
- does not sell or share your data for advertising;
- does not display advertisements;
- collects only anonymous usage, error, and crash data to improve the App; and
- does not use your data to track you across apps or websites.
Data stored on your device
Information you create or select in the App is stored locally on your device using iOS storage technologies. This may include:
- your name, biography, and profile photo;
- your language preference;
- movies and TV shows you search for or save;
- diary entries, dates, ratings, reviews, likes, and where you watched a title;
- your collection, memories, lists, and statistics; and
- data imported from Letterboxd export files that you select.
This content data is not sent to the developer. Depending on your device settings, it may be included in backups managed by Apple. Apple's privacy policy and your Apple settings govern the handling of those backups.
Photos and files you select
The App uses native iOS pickers so that you can select a profile photo or ZIP/CSV files exported from Letterboxd. The App can access only the items you select.
The selected photo is resized and stored locally. Letterboxd files are processed locally. During an import, a temporary copy of a ZIP file and a checkpoint may remain in the App's private storage so the process can be resumed. They are removed after a successful import, when you discard the import, or when you delete the App.
Anonymous usage, error, and crash data
The App uses Firebase Analytics without IDFA support and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how the App is used, identify failures, and improve stability, performance, and experience.
These tools may collect anonymous or aggregated events and technical information, such as:
- screens opened;
- search opened and completed, without sending the search text;
- result counts, saved item counts, and completed import counts;
- error types, status codes, and technical endpoints, without titles, lists, or reviews;
- crash technical information, such as stack traces, App version, device model, iOS version, and data needed to diagnose the failure.
This data is used only to improve the App, fix errors, and prioritize improvements. TNR does not send Firebase your name, email address, profile photo, biography, ratings, reviews, lists, search text, saved titles, or imported Letterboxd content.
Firebase may use technical installation identifiers to operate the services, group events, and associate crashes with an App installation. TNR does not use these identifiers to personally identify you, does not combine them with a user account, and does not use them for advertising or tracking across apps and websites.
Firebase's handling of this data is governed by Google/Firebase practices and terms, including the Google Privacy Policy and Firebase's Privacy and Security documentation.
The Movie Database (TMDB)
The App uses The Movie Database (TMDB) API to search for and retrieve titles, posters, images, cast information, and other movie and TV metadata.
To provide these features, the App sends TMDB:
- search terms you enter;
- during a Letterboxd import, title names and years needed to identify the works; and
- movie, TV show, season, or person identifiers needed to retrieve the corresponding data and images.
As with any internet communication, TMDB and its infrastructure providers may also receive technical information such as your IP address, the request date and time, and connection characteristics. The TNR developer does not receive or store this information.
According to its policy, TMDB may automatically collect API usage data, IP addresses, connection information, and information related to searches. TMDB states that it may use this data to provide and maintain its services, analyze usage, troubleshoot issues, improve its products, comply with legal obligations, and operate its business, and that it may share data with affiliates and service providers.
This handling is governed by the TMDB Privacy Policy and API Terms of Use, including their retention, deletion, and international transfer rules. TNR does not send TMDB your name, biography, profile photo, ratings, reviews, or lists, except for the titles and years required for the import described above.
Sharing
The App allows you to use the iOS share sheet to voluntarily share certain content. The destination and handling of shared content depend on the app or service you choose. Nothing is shared without your action.
Retention and deletion
Local data remains on your device while the App is installed or until you remove it using features available in the App. Deleting the App removes its local data and temporary files from the App's private storage, except for any copies that may exist in backups managed by Apple.
Because the developer does not maintain user accounts or a remote user database, there is no personal data on developer-operated servers for you to access, correct, or delete. Questions about data that may be handled by Firebase, TMDB, or Apple should be directed to those services.
Children and teenagers
The App does not knowingly collect children's or teenagers' personal data on developer-operated servers, does not contain advertising, and does not perform tracking.
Security
The App limits processing to what is necessary for its features and uses private storage provided by iOS. No method of storage or transmission is completely infallible, but the App does not operate its own server containing user data.
Changes to this policy
This Policy may be updated if the App's features or practices change. The new version will be published at the same address with a revised update date. Material changes may also be disclosed in the App or in release notes.
